People will not be allowed to go out of their home except for an emergency once the lockdown is imposed.

cabinet secretary Khandker Anwarul announced the development after a cabinet meeting on Monday.

The top bureaucrat was quoted as saying by Prothom Alo that alongside the police, BGB and battalion police, the army will also be on patrol to enforce the restrictions.

Khandker Anwarul Islam said, from 6:00am on 1 July till 12:00 midnight on 7 July, strict restrictions will be in place.

He said the restrictions might be increased for another week if needed.

Meanwhile, from Monday, public transport, shopping malls and markets will remain closed. These restrictions will remain in effect up till 1 July. After that the strict restrictions will come into force, reports Prothom Alo.

The number of detected novel coronavirus cases in Bangladesh, according to the government, on Monday rose to 8, 96,770 as the country sees the highest 8,364 cases in the last 24 hours since the pandemic detected first on 8 March, reports the newspaper

During the same 24 hours period, 104 people died due to the virus.
