Kabul: Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has criticised the Taliban government of Afghanistan and said the group will try to find excuses to stop girls from learning.

"I had one hope for today: that Afghan girls walking to school would not be sent back home. But the Taliban did not keep their promise. They will keep finding excuses to stop girls from learning – because they are afraid of educated girls and empowered women. #LetAfghanGirlsLearn," Malala tweeted.

The Taliban government of Afghanistan banned on Mar 23 all teenage girls in Afghanistan to attend classes from grade 6th upwards.

A small group of women demonstrated in Kabul city on Saturday against the Taliban regime's decision to ban teenage girls from going to schools.

The female protestors said access to education is an alienable right of humans and girls likewise the rest of the boys in Afghanistan have the right to get educated, Khaama Press reported.

The demonstration was held outside the gate of the Ministry of Education in central Kabul.

It was attended by parents, women activists, females, students, and a few young men.

“Education is our right, I want to go to school to study and make my future and the future of my country. I want to go to school as my brother does,” a student told Khaama Press.
