Making Cents International is recruiting researchers for an assessment of Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) that operate in the youth crime and violence prevention space in Jamaica. The assessment will identify FBOs and opportunities to build their capacity through desk review research and field work, as is possible given COVID-19 local health and safety protocols. The assessment will culminate with a written report that will include recommendations for future programming for FBOs working with at-risk youth at the secondary and tertiary levels.

The team will consist of a Team Lead and one to two Researchers with support from Making Cents International staff and their implementing partners, as needed.

Researcher Role:

The Researcher will support desk review research, field work planning and execution, and report writing, and will participate in meetings and presentations with USAID as needed. The Researcher will help identify appropriate contacts for field work and will travel as is necessary and possible.

The Researcher will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Review and/or identify relevant background materials prior to the commencement of the assessment, including any background materials that may be provided by USAID/Jamaica.
• Assist in desk review research and writing.
• Identify key informant interviewees and/or focus group discussion participants.
• Support logistical planning for field work.
• Contribute to the development of a field work plan and schedule.
• Support presentations and/or meetings with USAID/Jamaica, as needed.
• Participate in all team meetings.
• Contribute written input for the final report which includes the key findings, recommendations, and overall conclusions.
• Assist in the review, revision, and finalization of the final report based on feedback received from USAID in accordance with established deadlines.

Our Ideal Candidate:

• Has a Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years' relevant experience, or a Master's degree and at three (3) years' relevant experience, or a Doctorate/Ph.D.
• Possesses familiarity with the NGO sector in Jamaica, especially with FBOs supporting at-risk youth.
• Is based in Jamaica.

Proposed Level of Effort:

Maximum Level of Effort (LOE) will be 30 days, and the Researcher must work exclusively on the assessment during the field work phase. The Researcher will identify appropriate individuals and organizations for the team to meet with and interview during the field work phase of the assessment. Remaining LOE will be spent on writing select sections of the final report and reviewing the report.

Work Schedule:

The assessment is scheduled for December 2021 to February 2022; however, the exact dates are to be determined. If COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols limit travel and in-person meetings, some or all of the assessment may be conducted virtually.
