The move has angered subscribers, who have started an online petition, titled "RTHK: Give us back our BBC World Service".
The said petition has received more than 1000 signatures, who has signed in favour of the British broadcaster's programme.
Subscribers were quoted as saying by Reuters news agency that the alter between BBC World Service and CNR would make Hong Kong "feel more parochial and inward-looking."
The other factor that is seen as a hindrance is the language, as unlike mainland China, where Mandarin is the common tongue, Hong Hong has mostly Cantonese speakers.
Amen Ng, a spokeswoman for RTHK, told the agency that the switch was made to foster cultural exchange and is not done from a political angle.
However, critics have said that the same is a sign of Chinese dictatorship in the former British colony.
