Geneva:  India recently cornered Pakistan on the Kashmir issue at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in Geneva for referring to different UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions to target New Delhi but never itself comply with any of them.

India also attacked the nuclear-armed neighbour by saying that it cannot deny that the nation is home to 130 UN-designated terrorists and 25 terrorist entities listed by the United Nations.

“Can Pakistan deny the fact that UNSC resolutions which it keeps referring to, ask Pakistan, as the very first step, to withdraw from the illegally-occupied territory of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and that it has not done so for more than seven decades?” Rachita Bhandari, Director (Indo-Pacific-I), in Ministry of External Affairs, said.

“Can Pakistan deny that it is home to 130 UN-designated terrorists and 25 terrorist entities listed by the United Nations, and that these proscribed individuals have actively campaigned or contested in polls?” she asked.

She said India does not need to learn from its neighbours on the issue of upholding human rights.

The Indian representative targeted Pakistan government and said: “India, as not only the world’s largest democracy but a robustly functional and vibrant one, could well do without lessons from a failed State like Pakistan whose own people never enjoyed either true democracy or human rights."

The Indian diplomat questioned the Pakistan PM Imran Khan as she asked: "Can Pakistan deny the fact that its leaders, including its Prime Minister, have openly called for Jihad against India? Can Pakistan deny the fact that it unleashed a State-sponsored Genocide against its own people in 1971? Can Pakistan deny the fact that vulnerable minorities in the country face religious persecutions on a daily basis?"

India government last year scrapped Article 370 of the Indian constitution which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Ever since India took the move, Pakistan has been raking up the Kashmir issue on the international platforms.

India, however, described it as its internal matter.
