A training aircraft of the Pakistan Army crashed near Nawan Killi in Quetta on Monday due to a technical fault, killing two military pilots, media reports said.
In a statement quoted by Dawn News, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan military, said, “At midday, a Mushshak training aircraft of Pakistan Army Aviation crashed near Nawan Killi, Quetta, due to a technical fault.”
The statement identified the deceased as Major Husnain Shehzad Humayun, the instructor, and Captain Abdul Samad, who was undergoing training as a student pilot.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the incident.
The crash comes amid a series of military aviation accidents in Pakistan. In June, an Mi-17 helicopter belonging to Pakistan Army Aviation crashed near Muzaffarabad due to a technical fault, killing all personnel on board.
In another incident in the same month, two pilots were killed when a Pakistan Air Force aircraft crashed in Mardan during a routine training sortie.
