Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria, who was arrested from Dhaka airport while she was heading to Thailand, has been sent to jail for her alleged involvement in an attempted murder case linked to anti-government protests last year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nasrin Akter issued the order to send the actress, who played ousted former PM Sheikh Hasina onscreen in 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation', to prison on Monday.
Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Billal Bhuiyan of Vatara police station, submitted a plea for her detention, reported Dhaka Tribune.
The defence lawyer had applied for her bail, which the judge rejected after hearing.
The court has set May 22 as the next date for her bail hearing.
She was arrested after a case was filed against 17 actors, including Nusraat Faria, for the alleged attempted murder of a student in the capital's Vatara area during the July uprising last year, reported Dhaka Tribune.
The case documents state that Nusraat Faria is accused of financially supporting the Awami League and taking a stance against the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, reported the newspaper.

After making her debut opposite Indian actor Ankush Hazra in 2015-released movie Aashiqui, Nusraat went to work in several films like Hero 420 (2016), Badsha – The Don (2016) and Boss 2: Back to Rule (2017).
Several of the films were India-Bangladesh collaborations.
She gained prominence after playing onscreen Sheikh Hasina in Mujib: The Making of a Nation.

Mujib: The Making of a Nation is a 2023 epic biographical film based on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first president of Bangladesh.
The movie was directed by the late veteran Indian director Shyam Benegal.
Apart from Nusraat, the movie featured Bangladeshi actors Arifin Shuvoo and Nusrat Imrose Tisha.
