Objective of this contract:
Reporting to the Head of Programs and working closely with the Monitoring Officer and Protection Manager, the Communications Specialist will support the development of Alight El Salvador’s communication strategy. This includes developing communications related to Alight’s areas of interest such as human rights, gender-based violence, humanitarian protection, and refugees. The Communications Specialist will also support funding opportunities by visualizing the work to be done with and for communities in creative and compelling ways.

Alight in El Salvador exists to empower young people and their families to envision and realize a bright future for themselves, a future full of opportunities and free of violence. We do this work through an existing network of Catholic Sisters and the safe spaces they operate. By honoring the work of the Sisters and expanding the services they provide, Alight helps build new pathways and narratives for families in El Salvador through livelihoods and protection activities.
Alight has a head office in San Salvador and works in the communities of Apopa, La Chacra and Soyapango.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Visual Design – 30% of the time:
• In charge of all Alight El Salvador’s graphic design needs
• Support Alight El Salvador’s brand development strategy. Create designs for promotional use.
• Support with internal communication design assets for Alight’s Human Resources department
• Support in the development and design of digital, web and marketing materials.
Digital Platform Management & Digital Content Creation – 30% of the time:
• Assist in the implementation of Alight's external communication strategy, including maintaining social media sites and content creation.
• Create, maintain, and implement an engaging content calendar on social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram
• Provide technical and editorial support to the website, update content and publish news.
• Organize live broadcasts and other online events.
Writing & Reporting – 30% of the time:
• Create and disseminate a monthly newsletter in collaboration with the Reporting/Data Analysis Specialist and the Protection Manager, to increase the visibility of Alight El Salvador’s projects.
• Assist in writing success stories, coordinating with the Protection Manager and Reporting/Data Analysis Specialist
• Work in collaboration with VBG's protection team and the Reporting/Data Analysis Specialist in the collection of information for publications or multimedia products that promote the visibility of work with and for communities.
Additional Responsibilities – 10% of the time:
• Maintain and update the Alight media database.
• Provide support in logistics areas when required.
• Continuous coordination with LERO Studio, external consultant of Person-Centered Design, ally of Alight.
Deliverables and timeline:
Monthly deliverables will be planned in coordination with the Head of Programs.
Competences:
We are looking for the following education, technical skills, and knowledge:
• Person interested in a career in Communication or Development (preferably Communication or Social Sciences)
• Solid knowledge of social media management and campaign development.
• Experience with WordPress or web maintenance
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) or Canva
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish
• English Language Management
• Knowledge of the issues faced by survivors of gender-based violence, child protection and related issues.

• Comfort to accompany the technical team to field visits to the projects in Apopa, La Chacra, Soyapango and Mejicanos.
• Solution, service- and support-oriented attitude, and work ethic; and a willingness to guide staff in exploring options and solutions, while ensuring the fidelity and confidentiality of expected policies and procedures.
