Worldreader seeks a business development professional with diversified and extensive partnership management and project design experience in the international development sector. The ideal candidate comes with a track record of securing and managing significant grants and contracts from bilateral and multilateral donor agencies and foundations, subgrants, and subcontracts through strategic alliances with international development organizations, and fundraising partnerships with the business sector.

The International Development Manager will work to identify donor and partnership opportunities, lead and assist in the development of funding and partnership strategies, and lead and coordinate proposal development. The International Development Manager will focus primarily on development opportunities within the European and UK markets to expand Worldreader’s impact in the Global South, but will also support Worldreader global efforts with the international development community. Success means positioning Worldreader as a relevant partner-driven organization in the international impact community and securing five and six-figure donations, grants and subcontracts.

Reporting to the Director of International Development, the International Development Manager will be part of Worldreader's Global South team across Ghana, India, Kenya and Peru, while working closely with the global Impact and Advancement teams in the US and Europe.

This is a full-time position that can be based in London (UK) or in Barcelona (Spain). If located in London, the candidate will work remotely (home-based). If located in Barcelona, the candidate will be based in our Barcelona office, with a possible option of hybrid remote.

Responsibilities

• Research and identify new funding and partnership opportunities among agencies, INGOs, foundations, trusts and corporations, and work to convert to grant/partnership opportunities.
• Develop relationships with international potential partners and establish synergies and opportunities to work together, securing inputs from leadership in the organisation.
• Support the capacity building of our GEOs teams and colleagues on pre-positioning Worldreader on all stages of proposal and partnership development.
• Serve as the international development lead for technical and/or grant funding proposal preparations.
• Manage pre-solicitation proposal preparations and bid planning.
• Ensure quality inputs to proposal technical submission.
• Manage partners' inputs to the cost application.
• Provide technical input to our GEOs and EU/US-based impact and finance managers to support completion of the cost application in alignment with the technical program design.
• Manage proposal review process and check for quality, activity budget alignment, responsiveness and compliance with donor/funder/partner instructions.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience (minimum six years).
• A minimum of five years of international relief and development work experience including a minimum of four years of successful proposal development for institutional, trusts and foundations donors.
• Experience on leading on proposal design and budget development, with demonstrated excellent writing/editing skills for grant proposals, concept notes and presentations.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
• Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Ability to represent Worldreader in one-to-one meetings, presentations, and events.
• Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is required. Fluency in other languages such as Arabic, French or Hindi, will be a plus.
• Experience with Salesforce and/or other comparable CRM systems.
• Ability to be proactive and have an independent approach to delivering solutions.
• Ability to travel up to 25% internationally.
• Proof of passion for the power of books, digital technology and education to change the world.
