Under the supervision of the Assistant Controller, this entry level position will be responsible for performing general ledger accounting including payroll and related accruals, budgetary accounting and reporting. Assists the Accounting team with the day-to-day operations to help achieve the vision and mission of the Bank. Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Assists in the annual external audit of the Bank.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares, posts, and reconciles accounting entries for payroll, 401(a) retirement plan, post-retirement health benefits, and other accruals.
• Prepares monthly budget-to-actual reports with variance explanations.
• Analyzes general ledger information and reports to provide explanation of variances and changes, as requested.
• Contributes to ensure adequate internal controls of the accounting operations, records transactions, reconciles, and reports financial results.
• Contributes to monthly, quarterly, and annual preparation of financial statements for management and Board in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Assists with the external annual audit of the Bank; prepares requested schedules and information for the external auditors.
• Submits payroll and 401(a) contributions for third-party processing semi-monthly. Works with the Bank’s payments team to submit, reconcile, and ensure accurate funding for payroll and 401(a) contributions.
• Assists in the preparation of annual IRS tax forms to include W-2s and 1099s.
• Assists with the annual Indirect Cost rate (IDC) calculation for federal grants.
• Assists with U.S. GAAP research and provides analysis and recommendations.
• Performs/contributes to special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Undergraduate/Graduate degree with a major in accounting.
• CPA or pursuing CPA license or equivalent, strongly preferred
• Prior internship in public accounting or experience in financial services preferred.
• Effective interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
• Professional proficiency of written and spoken English, and Spanish preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
• Experience in general ledger software systems a plus (Microsoft Dynamics SL), and SharePoint.
