Digital Broadcast Editor, Moldova Service, Chisinau
JOB SUMMARY
The Digital Broadcast Editor is responsible for helping to shape each day's audio content from idea generation to final product to be published on relevant platforms, so that it reaches new audiences, deepens loyalty, and builds trust. You will be managing a team of digital broadcasters and sound designers to produce audio podcasts and radio shows, using the power of sound and human voice to distill complex topics (e.g. economics and corruption) into user friendly, compelling, engaging, and interesting story presentations. You will take a direct role in the daily analysis of audio production and dissemination of audio content on digital platforms. You must have experience in all phases of creating audio podcasts and radio shows. You should be able to carry out all functions of other editors on the team. You communicate proactively with stakeholders across various divisions and teams, including writers and editors, to ensure that published content meet expectations across platforms. This position reports to the Managing Editor / Service Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• You supervise the creation of our audio content, including but not limited to audio podcasts, news briefs, full-length and radio shows, interviews.
• You work closely with writers, editors, digital broadcasters, sound designers and others to create audio products under tight deadlines.
• You will be making sense of difficult topics and present compelling audio stories around them.
• You develop new audio products, with a specific focus on a positive and informative experience. particularly for mobile consumption.
• You will stay current with state-of-the-art audio podcasting practices.
• You must keep up with world news and developments in target region.
• You are expected to create original content from time to time.
• You manage, coach, train, give constructive feedback and reliably guide staff in editorial matters.
• Come with innovative and creative ideas around audio programming.
• You make independent decisions and are responsible for the final audio products.
• In addition to working regular shifts, you are expected to be available during important, breaking news events, and work as assigned by the Managing editor and Service Director.
• You perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or related field or the equivalent in experience is preferred.
Work Experience:
• 7+ years of experience years of extensive experience in audio and radio journalism, as both a reporter and an editor, including on digital platforms,
• Experience in producing and editing audio content,
• Experience in effectively supervising others,
• Experience in positions of increasing responsibility,
• Strong reporting and editing background,
• Broad, thorough and detailed knowledge of political, economic, and social situations in the operating area as well as international affairs,
• Previous experience working in a multicultural or a multinational environment is preferred.
Competencies:
• Strong news judgment,
• Team-based work ethic,
• Experience in positions of increasing responsibility,
• Strong reporting and editing background,
• Excellent interviewing and story-telling skills,
• Knowledge of audio editing software such as Adobe Audition, Audacity, DAVID,
• Ability to multitask and prioritize with little supervision under tight deadlines,
• Broad, thorough and detailed knowledge of political, economic, and social situations in the operating area as well as international affairs,
• Understanding of RFE/RL mission and broadcast target area.
Languages:
• Romanian – fluent,
• Russian – proficient,
• English – written and spoken working knowledge.
