Coronavirus: Bangladesh's daily infection rate jumps to 28.27 percent as 132 die in 24 hours Covid-19

Dhaka: Daily deaths due to Covid-19 in Bangladesh surpassed the one-hundred mark for the sixth day in a row as 132 people- the country's second highest fatality toll within 24 hours- succumbed to the virus between Thursday and Friday morning, according to an official press release.

Barring June 26, the country has recorded more than one hundred deaths, every 24 hours, since June 25.

On Thursday, 143 people died, the highest single day toll since the first death was recorded in the country on March 18, 2020.

With the lastest fatalities, the death toll has jumped to 14,778.

Of the 132 deceased- 81 men and 51 women, 35 people died in Khulna division, 30 in Dhaka division, 24 each in Chittagong and Rajshahi divisions, nine in Rangpur division, six in Mymensingh division and two each in Barisal and Sylhet divisions.

As many as 119 people died at different hospitals, while 13 died at home.

Sixty-seven people among the 132 deceased were aged above 60 years. Thirty people were aged between 51 and 60 years, 20 people between 41 and 50 years, 14 people between 31 and 40 and one person aged between 11 and 20 years.

Among the total deaths in the country, 71.02 percent (10,496) were men and 28.98 percent (4,282) were women.

The mortality rate presentlyly stands at 1.59 percent.

Meanwhile, 8,483 new cases have been detected in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 9,30,042.

At the same time, 4,509 people have recovered from the disease. So far, a total of 8,25,422 people have made recoveries in the country. The rate has dropped a little and now stands at 88.75 percent.

The infection rate has seen a significant surge- 28.27 percent- after the country tested 30,012 samples in the last 24 hours at 566 authorized labs. During this time, 30,385 coronavirus samples were collected.

Bangladesh has so far tested 66,70,994 samples since the beginning of the pandemic.
