The previous record was 119, which was registered on Sunday. With the latest fatalities, the death toll reached 14,646

Khulna division reported 46 deaths, followed by Dhaka division with 35 deaths, Rajshahi division with 19 deaths. Chittagong division recorded 15 deaths, Rangpur division registered 10 deaths, followed by Barisal division with eight deaths, Sylhet division with seven deaths and Mymensingh division with three deaths.

Among the 143 deceased- 90 men and 43 women- 70 people were aged over 60 years, 42 people were aged between 50 and 60 years, 18 people were aged between 40 and 50 years, 11 people were aged between 30 and 40 years, one person was aged between 10 and 20 years and another person aged less than 10 years.

The virus has so far killed 10,415 men (71.11 percent) and 4,231 women (28.89 percent) across Bangladesh.

The infection toll rose to 9,21,559 after another 8,301 people tested positive in the 24 hours, an official press release said.

In the last 24 hours, 32,924 samples were collected and 32,055 samples were tested in 566 public and private laboratories. A total of 66,40,982 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The country also recorded the second highest positivity rate of 25.9 percent since the first coronavirus case was reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020. On August 3, the single-day positivity stood at 31.91 percent.

Meanwhile, another 4,663 patients have recovered from the deadly disease, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 8,20,913.

The overall test positivity rate stands at 13.88 percent.

The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.59%.
