Dhaka: Bangladesh has recorded its second highest daily death toll since the start of the coronavirus pandemic as 108 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, between Thursday and Friday. The death toll rose to 13,976.

Among the deceased were 75 men and 33 women. Eighty-three of them died at government hospitals, 14 at private hospitals and 11 at their homes.

Khulna division topped the daily death chart with 27. Dhaka division reported 25 deaths, 23 people died in Chittagong division, 16 in Rajshahi division, 10 in Rangpur division, four in Mymensingh division, and three in Sylhet division.

Age wise, 58 of the deceased were aged above 60, 25 aged between 51 and 60, 15 aged between 41 and 50, seven aged between 31 and 40, two people between 21 and 30, and one person between 11 and 20.

The highest daily death toll stands at 112, which was recorded on April 19. On April 18, the official daily death toll stood at 102.

Meanwhile, 2,776 people recovered and another 5,869 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. The overall recovery and infection toll rose to 7,97,559 and 8,78,904 respectively.

The daily infection rate climbed to 21.22 percent, while the overall rate stood at 13.60 percent.

The recovery rate decreased a little from a tad over 91 percent a few days ago to 90.96 percent in the last 24 hours.

According to an official press release, 28,247 samples were collected and 27,653 samples were tested at 554 government and private laboratories across the country.

A total of 6,463,119 samples have been tested so far.

Among the total Covid-19 deceased in the country, men account for 71.52 percent (9,995), compared to 28.48 percent women (3,981).

Dhaka leads the divisional charts with 7,472 deaths, followed by Chittagong (2,650), Khulna (1,114), Rajshahi (952), Rangpur (565), Sylhet (514), Barisal (413) and Mymensingh (296).
