Dhaka: The COVID-19 virus has claimed 40 new lives in Bangladesh as the total death toll due to the disease now stands at  7,129.

Today's casualty figures marked the highest daily count in three months.

The caseload jumped to 494,209 after 1,877 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8 am Tuesday, according to data released by the government as quoted by bdnews24.

The number of fresh recoveries outpaced active cases in the same period as another 2,884 patients recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the total to 426,729, the news portal reported.

by tackling the coronavirus outbreak through unity.

Noting that the final span of the Padma Bridge, a proud moment for her administration, was installed about a week ago, Hasina said in a televised address to the nation on Tuesday as quoted by bdnews24: “I greet all the citizens of Bangladesh at home and abroad sincerely and pledge to build one of the greatest nations in the world.”
