Kolkata, June 6 (Just Earth News): Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company strongly believes in the importance of environmental conservation and is committed to the sustainable growth, protection and conservation of nature.

Upholding this moral responsibility, the Company organised various engaging initiatives across plant locations to celebrate World Environment Day 2016 keeping with the theme ‘Join the race to make the world a better place’. In line with this, Tata Power has initiated a massive tree plantation drive on World Environment Day across its business locations in India where around 25,000 saplings were planted. Continuing the noble initiative throughout the year, Tata Power has committed to plant several lakhs of saplings in FY17.

The company also celebrated the World Environment Day with its consumers at its Customer Centres in a unique and meaningful manner by gifting saplings to all the consumers opting for 'Be Green' initiatives. Tata Power Consumers made a conscious choice of opting for 'Be Green' initiatives like opting for E-bill, ECS / NACH, appliance exchange programmes. Consumers who received a free sapling for joining the Be Green initiative were overjoyed as they were made part of this global event.

Speaking on these initiatives, Vivek Talwar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Tata Power, said, “We are delighted by the numerous activities undertaken by employees, with a strong sense of commitment towards the environment and the planet. We also believe that there couldn’t have been a better occasion than the World Environment Day, to sensitize consumers on the benefits of being green. Consumers opting for the 'Be Green' initiatives are rightly the citizens who are willing to make a difference. These activities are not a mere one day event at Tata Power, but an ongoing process of taking care of the neighbourhood, as well as the community at large that we flourish in. Considering that many parts of the country are undergoing water stress, we have decided to ramp up the tree plantation activities across the country only after the monsoons arrive, to ensure water conservation and survival of the saplings.”
