Islamabad: Baloch National Movement members have urged the United Nations to take immediate steps to protect and secure the lives and future of Baloch refugees in Afghanistan as the security situation in the war-torn country deteriorates with the advances of Taliban.
In a statement, Baloch National Movement Chairman Khalil Baloch expressed disappointment that no practical steps are being taken to safeguard those who were persecuted in Pakistan and had to migrate to Afghanistan due to Pakistani atrocities, reports ANI.
Under the 1951 Refugee Convention, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and other parties or host countries are bound to provide protection to any person who seeks refuge from persecution, the Indian news agency reported.
Afghanistan has been witnessing a turmoil ever since the foreign forces started leaving the country.
