Beijing: Chinese authorities have arrested nine people after a video went viral which showed two women allegedly being attacked by a group of men in Tangshan city, media reports said on Monday.
The video footage had led to an outcry on social media and re-ignited debate about gender violence in China.
The incident began when a man put his hand on a woman's back in a restaurant and she pushed him away, reports BBC.
The man is seen striking her before others drag her outside and continue attacking as she lies on the floor, the British media reported.
The group of men were also seen attacking her dining partners.
Two of the women were admitted to hospital and were in a "stable condition and not in mortal danger", while two others sustained minor injuries, officials told BBC.
😲 This is horrible! 🤦

But, I won't put down women's status in China based on a one-off physical attack at Tangshan. Violence against women occurs everywhere. Women need to learn to better protect themselves.
I'm glad that the suspects have been arrested! https://t.co/A4yjzqTTiu
