Kabul: The Taliban on Friday banned the wheat exports from Afghanistan with immediate effect in order to meet domestic demand.
"Acting Finance Minister Mullah Hidayatullah Badri has directed all customs offices in the country to stop exporting wheat," it said in a statement, adding that the decision was taken to prevent a shortage of wheat in the country, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Over 22 million people of the country face acute food shortages.
The Taliban came to power in Afghanistan last year.
