Dhaka, (JEN): Exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen has joined the many voices crying foul against communal violence targeting the minority Hindu community across Bangladesh.

According to reports, at least six people were killed and hundreds injured during this violence, allegedly carried out by Islamists during the Durga Puja celebrations in the country last week.

Taslima, who is currently residing in India, took to Twitter to lash out at the government and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in particular, in a series of tweets she posted in the last three days. Taslima has been living in exile since 1994. Several of her books are banned in Bangladesh.

"Hasina is celebrating today her brother Sheikh Russel's birth annivrrsary (sic) when thousands of Hindus are homeless after their houses were demolished or burnt down," read one.

"Cry, the beloved country. #BangladeshiHinduWantSafety," read another, along with a collage of pictures depicting the alleged vandalism.

A third tweet was accompanied by a picture where a massive blaze can be seen. The caption read: "Last night in Pirganj, Rangpur, Bangladesh. Two Hindu villages were burnt down by jihadis. Hasina was playing flute (sic)."

She also came down heavily on Bangladeshi communists and Indian liberals, calling them out for their ambiguous nature.

"i (sic) don't understand why the great Indians who support their country's minority population hate me as i (sic) support my country's minority population!" Taslima tweeted.

"Qawmi madrasas are the breeding grounds for jihadis. Bangladeshi communists always support jihadis, and justify all jihadi activities only because jihadis are against the common enemy America. Communists are not communists anymore, they have become Qawminists," she said.

Meanwhile, several arrests have been made so far in Bangladesh as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal have vowed accountability. Hasina has also instructed party workers to provide all necessary aid to the victims.

Several police officers have also been transferred for failing to curb the violence.

The attack on Hindus- a minority community making up for 10 percent of Bangladesh's 165 million population- has stirred up a debate in India, a Hindu stronghold.

While several people have urged restraint and order, one wonders what Taslima hopes to achieve with such 'mis'timely tweets.
