Dhaka: At least 70 to 80 houses were vandalised after thousands of Hefazat-e-Islam supporters attacked a Hindu village in Shalla upazila of Sunamganj on Wednesday, reports said.
The incident was preceded by a conference attended by Hefazat's Amir Allama Junaid Babunagari, Joint-Secretary General Mawlana Mufti Mamunul Haque and several other central leaders at Derai upazila on Monday.
According to reports, a Hindu man took to Facebook to write a post criticizing Mamunul- who had opposed Bangabandhu's sculpture at the conference.
As news spread about the Facebook post, the angry mob attacked the village with weapons.
Prior to the attack, Hefazat leaders had already accused the man of inciting religious violence during a demonstration on Tuesday night.
As the situation became tense, police arrested the youth.
However, around 9 am on Wednesday, the armed mob from Kashipur, Nachni, Chandipur and Noagaon attacked the Hindu village.

Meanwhile, legal proceedings have been started against the youth.
