Kabul: A prison riot in Afghanistan's Herat killed at least eight people and injured another 12 on Wednesday.
According to Mohammad Rafiq Shirzai, spokesman for the provincial public health directorate, the riot started after law enforcement officials removed some partitions created by prisoners in block 5 of Herat Prison.
The injured people were rushed to Herat hospital, the official added.
The prisoners also set ablaze block 5, local Tolo News reported quoting sources.
