Dhaka: Bangladesh has surpassed the 250,000 mark for the reported number of novel coronavirus patients, after 2,851 people tested positive for the deadly disease within 24 hours, according to officials.
Another 27 people died in a day, taking the toll to 3,333.
The figures were confirmed by Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Prof Nasima Sultana, on Friday.
Sultana said 13,253 samples were collected from suspects between Thursday and Friday mornings.
From the collected samples, 12,699 were tested in 84 authorised labs.
Among the deceased were 24 men and three women.
The fatalities include 13 patients from Dhaka division, five from Khulna, three each from Chittagong and Rajshahi, two from Rangpur, and one from Barisal division, the official data revealed.
Meanwhile, 1,760 patients recovered within the aforementioned period.
A total of 145,584 patients have recovered so far, which is 57.66 percent of those infected.
