Kabul (Sputnik/UNI) Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has met with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on the sidelines of the summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and discussed regional issues and reconciliation, the Afghan Presidential Palace said Friday.

On Tuesday, Afghan National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib visited Islamabad, leading a high-level delegation in an effort to restore ties on the first visit since the relations soured in November. The relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been complicated over Pakistan's role in Afghan authorities' attempts to negotiate with the Taliban movement.

"The two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties, regional issues and Afghan peace process," the palace said in a statement.

The statement added that Ghani and Khan would hold further discussion during the Afghan president's upcoming visit to Pakistan.

The Pakistani news agencies have reported that Ghani will visit Islamabad in June.

The Afghan president has also met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on the sidelines of the 14th summit of the OIC held in Mecca.

The Taliban movement and the Afghan authorities have not held direct talks yet, although Taliban have negotiated with the United States. The withdrawal of foreign troops, including US military, has been one of the key demands of the movement.
