Afghanistan: Taliban abducts 40 passengers

Kabul: At least 40 passengers and driver were abducted by Taliban terrorists in  Dara-e-Soof district in Samangan province of Afghanistan on Sunday, media reports said.

The incident occurred in Khushk Dara village in the district at around 10:00am on Sunday morning, said Mohammad Munir Rahimi, spokesman for Samangan police told Tolo News.

He told the Afghanistan-based news portal Taliban resorted to taking hostage the passengers to convince the drivers to pay them taxes.  

Officials have initiated steps to release the abducted people.

Taliban has not commented on the issue so far.
