The Australian government has increased the application fee for its Student Visa (Subclass 500) by AUD 500, making it more expensive for international students, including those from India, planning to pursue higher education in the country.
The revised fee came into effect on July 1.
“The Australian Government has increased visa application charges for all visas, including the Student Visa Application Charge (VAC). The Student VAC increased from AUD $2,000 to AUD $2,500 from 1 July 2026,” read a statement issued by the government.
The application fee for the Temporary Graduate Visa has also been raised from AUD $4,600 to AUD $5,750, effective from the same date.
However, the existing concession for applicants from Pacific Island nations and Timor-Leste will continue to apply.
The statement further noted that eligible students will continue to pay the current application charge, along with an annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustment.
“Demand for Temporary Graduate visas remains strong. Visa holders continue to have unlimited work rights and can use their Australian qualifications to access employment opportunities in Australia or overseas,” the statement added.
