A 44-year-old man in the United States reportedly died of a heart attack while attempting to dispose of the body of his girlfriend, whom authorities say had been strangled to death.

The deceased man was identified as Daniel Robbins, while the victim was identified as Jessica Folds, 47.

According to media reports, Robbins allegedly tried to dispose of Folds' body in a wooded area near Lanett, Alabama.

Authorities later found the bodies of both Robbins and Folds lying next to each other in brush beside a roadway.

An autopsy determined that Folds died from strangulation, Upper Michigan Source reported.

Robbins is believed to have suffered a fatal heart attack. His ex-wife told the news outlet that he had a pre-existing heart condition.

Folds lived just a few kilometres from the location where her body was discovered.

According to her obituary, she is survived by three sons and two grandchildren.

"Jessica lived and worked in many places throughout the Auburn-Opelika area. Jessica touched the lives of many with her heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and smile that brightened the world," the obituary said.

In a Facebook post, the Chambers County Sheriff's Office said: "On June 10, 2026, at approximately 12:20 p.m., Chambers County deputies were dispatched to County Road 86 in reference to a vehicle parked on the roadway. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased white female and white male in a wooded area near the vehicle. Agents from the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and Chambers County Coroner's Office responded to the scene and are handling the investigation."

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the deaths, and the investigation remains ongoing.
