An eight-year-old child was among the seven people who died in a mishap during a motor race in Sri Lanka on Sunday (April 21, 2024).
The Fox Hill Super Cross 2024 racing event turned tragic when a car veered off the track and left 20 others injured in Diyatalawa town, located about 180km (110 miles) east of the capital Colombo.
The injured people were rushed to Diyatalawa Base Hospital for treatment.
Three persons, who were critically injured, were shifted to Badulla Hospital.
According to reports, more than 100,000 spectators were present at the venue to see the race.
The 28th edition of the Fox Hill Super Cross, organized by the Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa in collaboration with Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS), commenced in Diyatalawa on Sunday, April 21st, reported The Daily Mirror.
The race was suspended following the mishap.
Police have started investigating the incident.
