Start Date: 15 Mar 2023, 06:25 am
Closing Date: 12 Apr 2023, 12:00 am

The Syria Campaign is looking for an all-round full-stack freelance DEVELOPER with experience working across the whole web stack. In particular you’ll need experience working with Action Kit (our fundraising and organising platform).

You’ll get to work with amazing people like Syrian human rights activists and the White Helmets (here’s a trailer for the Netflix doc about them). We’re looking for someone who can put together awesome microsites and help maintain our current sites, microsites and Action Kit pages and database.

The larger sites are based on WordPress and the smaller ones are mostly statically deployed (using GitLab CI). You’ll need a good understanding of Jamstack architectures and experience working with Gutenberg-era WordPress, as well as knowledge of how to integrate our sites with ActionKit. From there on, we’ll be relying on you to bring your creative, technical and other skills to the table to help win our campaigns.

It’s a flexible freelance role but in terms of time commitments, some weeks we’ll need a lot of your time and other weeks it might be minimal. Our work depends on the situation on the ground in Syria so we have to be able to ramp up and scale back capacity quite flexibly. The role can be done remotely, with European or US time zones preferred.

If this sounds like you and you really want to make a difference in the world through top-class digital work, we’d love to hear from you.

We are an equal opportunity and inclusive employer and encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply. We do not and will not discriminate on the basis of age, race, nationality or citizenship, gender expression or identity, religion, economic background, disability, or sexual orientation.

About Us

The Syria Campaign is a small, fast moving and powerful human rights organisation that has impact through stories, news and campaigns. We work to support Syria’s heroes in the struggle for freedom and democracy, partnering with civil society partners inside and outside the country.

The Syria Campaign works to keep Syria in the international spotlight to increase the cost of attacks on civilians, help build the power of civil society, advocate for a vision of real peace and justice and build international solidarity with the Syrian people.

We’ve raised the profile of Syrian groups such as the White Helmets rescue workers, helping secure them millions of dollars to continue their life-saving work and making them famous around the world. We’ve supported the Families for Freedom, a women-led movement of the families of the disappeared in Syria, to ensure their demands are heard. We work with dozens of partners across Syria who trust us deeply. Syria is full of heroes and we’re privileged enough to work with them.

We have to fight hard to make sure the issues that matter to us and our partners get the focus and support they need. We refuse to let Syria disappear from the attention of the world, and we will work until we see justice served.

Rate: $300-400 per day
