Rockstar Games appears to have suffered a major security breach just days before it is set to release official extended footage of the much-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) on Netflix.
According to media reports, gameplay videos and images purportedly showing the game's full map are currently circulating widely online.
The leaked map of Leonida, the fictional state where GTA 6 is set, appears to be a distorted and compact version of southern Florida. Similar to GTA V, it features a large city—Rockstar's fictional version of Miami—in the eastern part of the map, while the west and north are dominated by large stretches of greenery. Numerous large and small islands can also be seen, including a group in the south that appears to resemble the Florida Keys, Engadget reported, citing details visible in the leaked material.
One of the leaked clips reportedly shows Jason, one of the game's two protagonists, at a waterside property. The footage appears to show gym equipment on a balcony, reminiscent of the workout mechanics featured in GTA: San Andreas. Jason then reportedly jumps over a ledge, runs past a jet ski, picks up a basketball and takes several shots, according to the report.
However, the authenticity of the leaked videos and other materials remains unconfirmed. The dates on which the alleged leaked assets were created also remain unverified.
According to reports, the breach was carried out by a group calling itself 'CyberLeek'.
"If Cyberleek can reach Rockstar, no one is safe. This is a message to all big corpo: behave, or be the next target. This is the Cyberkleek Edict, and it is non-negotiable," the group reportedly said in a statement, as quoted by NDTV.
Meanwhile, Rockstar Games and streaming platform Netflix have announced a partnership for the premiere of an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI later this month.
Rockstar Games said the extended footage will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, at 3 p.m. ET. It will also be released on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET on August 27.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Fans can pre-order the game through the official Rockstar Games website.
