As Nepali’s capital Kathmandu  continued to record a surge in the Covid-19 cases, the district administration has decided to restrict the movement of people and vehicle starting from Thursday this week, reported The Himalayan Times.

Earlier, the country’s Covid-19 Crisis Management Centre had recommended the district administrations take effective measures to control the surge. The District Administration Offices of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur conducted a meeting on Monday to take stock of the situation.

The valley currently accounts for half of the total active cases of the Covid-19 in the country. In the wake of the recent surge in the valley, it was decided to impose prohibitory orders.

As per the CDOs' decision, vehicles other than emergency service vehicles, will not be allowed to ply the roads beginning Thursday while essential supply stores will have a set window of time for operations.

The valley on Sunday recorded 1500 cases. However, domestic flights would continue their operations, the order said.

Nepal still has its borders open with India which is grappling with a disastrous second wave of infections. Also, the returnees from India in large numbers are another cause of concern for officials.
