Kabul: The Socialists and Democrats Group has nominated 11 Afghanistan women for the 2021 Sakharov Prize in the European Parliament.
This prize is the highest honour by the European Union to human rights defenders who are also the victims of human rights abuses, ANI news agency reported.
The group tweeted: "Today we presented our nominees for the 2021 #SakharovPrize: A collective of 11 prominent Afghan Women who have been bravely fighting for equality and full enjoyment of human and fundamental rights in Afghanistan."

The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, commonly known as the Sakharov Prize, is an honorary award for individuals or groups who have dedicated their lives to the defense of human rights and freedom of thought.
Named after Russian scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov, the prize was established in December 1988 by the European Parliament.
