Ankara: At least 17 people, including undocument Pakistani nationals, were killed as a minibus in which they were traveling crashed into a light pole in eastern Turkey on Thursday, media reports said on Friday.
The incident left 36 others injured, local Anadolu Agency reported.
"The minibus caught fire after hitting the pole on the Igdir-Kars highway in Igdir province," the agency report read.
The report said that the travelling party consisted of migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran, who had entered Turkey illegally from the Iranian border.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, deputy provincial health director, Taner Basaran said that 50 people were in the vehicle, of which the passenger capacity is only 14.
The injured people were rushed to Igdir State Hospital for treatment.
