PLRCAP Learning Coordinator (National position)

Expected start date: November 2023

Contract duration: till September 2024 renewable based on funding and needs

Background:

iMMAP France is a non for-profit organization that provides information management services to humanitarian and development organizations. Through information management, we help our partners target assistance to the world’s most vulnerable populations ad we support local authorities and institutions to enhance their capacities and become autonomous in their internal data and information management activities. iMMAP France, is the host entity of the Nigeria INGO Forum and the PLRCAP Initiative.

Nigerian INGO Forum (NIF) NIF is an interagency network of international NGOs, established in 2014 to facilitate the coordination and cooperation of humanitarian aid and development between INGOs and among INGOs and external stakeholders including the Government of Nigeria, Nigerian civil society, UN agencies, diplomatic actors, and donors.

PLRCAP (Promoting Local Response Capacities and Partnership) an initiative of the Nigeria INGO Forum, accompanies Nigerian local and national civil society organizations in their organizational growth and development. Through its NGO Support Hub, including the Hub’s digital learning tools, communities of practice, information and visibility databases, Nigerian NGOs can elaborate and progress organizational development plans, access technical assistance, learn and share with peers and experts, find partners and increase their visibility. In addition to member support functions, the Hub runs specialized learning journeys, as developed with members and partners, as well hosts its NGO expert webinar series, every two weeks,sparking peer learning and dialogue on key topics for Nigerian civil society. To ensure its effectiveness and relevance the Hub, with its partners the Hub carries out a series of research and knowledge sharing activities, including mappings and reviews of Nigeria’s civil society, identifying challenges and success strategies.

PLRCAP is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Learning Coordinator to join our organization and lead in the capacity strengthening of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The ideal candidate should have experience working with Nigerian or international NGOs in the areas of capacity strengthening, development, coordination, development and facilitation of learning programs. This position requires strong communication skills, a deep understanding of adult learning, and the not for profit sector and a passion for promoting effective learning and growth within the sector.
This candidate will join a small team to assist in the launching of the hub as well as develop a Hub’s specialized Learning Journeys for 2023 and 2024, notably a comprehensive capacity strengthening program for NGOs working in Adamawa in Emergency and Transitional Programming.

Scope of work

Description of Duties

Develop and roll out the PLRCAP Learning Journeys:
• Work with the PLRCAP team and the Hub member organizations to understand organizational needs, design and roll out a full course focused on transitional programming and the humanitarian/development nexus.
• Identify and bring on board relevant partners and experts relevant to each learning journey.
• Lead in the development of course design with experts and partners.
• Plan, coordinate and ensure the effective call for course applicants and marketing of each course.
• Manage the participant review and selection process.
• Plan, coordinate, and ensure effective delivery of course training and mentorship sessions.
• Work closely with the PLRCAP technical advisor and experts to develop training materials, presentations, and other resources to support learning initiatives in line with PLRCAP vision and branding.
• Coordinate and ensure effective scheduling and provision of mentorship and coaching to NGO staff to enhance their skills and competencies.
• Work with the team to ensure continued update and improvement of the NGO support curated library of resources.
• Work closely with MEAL Coordinator to collect relevant data for the HUB’s MEAL framework and data collection needs.

Develop and implement capacity strengthening strategies:
• Coordinate and work closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient functioning of the NGO support hub towards addressing the needs of the Nigerian NGOs.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify capacity gaps and develop an organizational development plan and strategies to address them.
• Provide guidance on best practices and innovative approaches to enhance organizational capacity.

Provide technical assistance and support:
• Offer on-site and remote technical assistance to Nigerian NGOs for effective onboarding onto the NGO support hub.
• Support Nigerian NGOs to effectively utilize the PLRCAP self-assessment tool to conduct organizational assessments and provide tailored recommendations to improve NGO effectiveness.

Knowledge sharing and networking:
• Stay abreast of the latest trends, innovations, and best practices in NGO capacity strengthening and organizational development.
• Foster knowledge sharing and learning among NGOs by facilitating peer learning platforms, communities of practice, and knowledge exchange events.

Requirements:

Education:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., international development, development studies, organizational development, or any area of social sciences).

Experience:
• Proven experience working in the non-governmental sector, preferably in capacity strengthening or organizational development roles.
• Familiarity with organizational assessment tools.
• Good understanding of NGO operations, including project management, fundraising, governance, and monitoring and evaluation.
• Sound knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and participatory approaches.
• Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for training, data analysis, and knowledge management.

Soft skills:

• Strong facilitation and training skills, with the ability to deliver engaging and interactive learning experiences.
• Strong leadership skills and entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to conceptualize and roll out a comprehensive learning program.
• Self-driven will little need for oversight.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel domestically, as required.
