RECOFTC is inviting applications for the position of Business Development Officer. The successful candidate will be based at the RECOFTC main office in Bangkok, Thailand. The contract duration is for 24 months, with a possibility of extension subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Specific tasks and duties

The role of the business development team is to monitor, track and apply for funding calls, as well as to cultivate relationships with existing and potential new funders and partners. As we enter a new five-year Strategic Phase (2023-2028), we are looking to expand and diversify our funding and donor base. This position will play an integral role in strategizing, conceptualizing, and writing to a range of donors and audiences.

The Business Development Officer is a member of the Executive Office working in collaboration across the organization providing business development support where needed, as well as working on early solicitation, business intelligence, and marketing and communication products for business development. This position will report to the Business Development Specialist.

Specific tasks and duties include:

• Lead proposal writing, and edit proposals and concept notes, with technical and institutional inputs from staff members and country programs
• Support proposal and concept note development processes to ensure timely submission of high-quality products that are responsive and compliant to donor requirements
• Support RECOFTC’s business development, including building a solid bankable pipeline of projects at both the country and regional levels, such as for our flagship Explore program
• Support and help identify partners, ensuring a competitive position and viable role for RECOFTC
• Perform desk research on public and private donor trends and priorities, including foundations, and stay abreast of specific donor initiatives
• Support the business development team and all RECOFTC staff to implement the Business Development Strategy
• Support the development of proposal budgets and budget narratives
• Work with RECOFTC country offices with their country-level business development efforts and planning
• Maintain RECOFTC’s Business Development organizational files and records, keep documents organized and accessible for all RECOFTC staff
• Update and revise organizational capacity statements and other key documents for the Business Development team
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Business Development Specialist and Business Development Manager

Qualifications and experience

The Business Development Officer will have the following qualifications and experience:

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in English, writing, communications, international development, business development, marketing or a related field. Master’s degree preferred
• Three to five years professional experience in business development, fundraising, international development or a related field
• Demonstrated ability and success in fundraising and writing funding proposals
• Good understanding of the environment and natural resource management sector, especially forestry, climate change, governance, livelihoods, gender and social inclusion
• Excellent research, analytical, editing and writing skills in English
• Knowledge of donors, funding trends and key actors in international development, preferably in the Asia-Pacific context
• Familiarity with family foundations and private sector actors
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with people at all levels in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment
• Knowledge and proven skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe (Acrobat)
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced dynamic environment
• Excellent organization, time management and communication skills
• A good sense of humor, team player and positive attitude
• A self-starter, willing to take initiative and follow through on tasks; works well independently or as part of a team

Desirable

• Experience working on a small team with limited resources, wearing multiple hats as needed
• Work experience in Southeast Asia
• Experience developing or designing climate finance or nature-based solution projects
• Familiarity with designing green business models or sustainable finance initiatives in the forestry and land use sector
• Experience with preparing cost proposals or proposal budgets
• Experience with fundraising in academic settings
• Knowledge of an Asian language
