Climate Focus is looking for a Junior Communications Specialist based out of our Washington D.C., USA, Amsterdam or Rotterdam, The Netherlands, or Berlin, Germany offices

Job Description

This role will participate in both internal and external facing communication tasks supporting our Communication Specialist and wider Climate Focus team with an emphasis on digital communications as well as relevant communications and design tasks on a project-by-project basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a pioneering, versatile and dynamic organization.

We expect the Junior Communication Specialist to assume communications-related tasks that will include but are not limited to:

Internal Newsletter

• Support the management of and sending out of internal newsletters and updates as publications come through, ensure important posts are published, etc. Potential for daily or weekly digests if time allows

Media Engagement and PR

• Press releases, pitching to journalists, tracking press mentions and profiles of high-profile team members, managing and updating new journalists contacts in our dashboard, briefings, keeper of quote banks

Social Media and Digital Engagement

• Content creation and first drafts of writing social media content, managing social media channels, posting, forums, engagement on and management of various public facing online platforms

Website

• Keeping the website updated, adding to/ removing content from the website, copyediting any and all executive summaries and blogs, needs to be aware of and comfortable with metrics and tracking on the backend

Projects

• Supporting development and implementation of communication plans for Climate Focus projects

Profile

Successful candidates will:

• Have the ability to work independently and adapt to project needs as they arise
• Have strong writing and copyediting skills
• Have strong organizational and time management skills
• Be a team player who is very comfortable working collaboratively and across time zones
• Be able to ask questions that help to understand the entire scope of a project or the content
• Fluency in English. Working knowledge of Spanish or French is a plus.
• The ability to think operationally, drawing connections between various projects that are happening within the company
• Have at a minimum, knowledge of tools such as Canva, with a preference to candidates that have a working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign)
• Enjoy working in an international environment on a range of topics related to climate change
• 2-4 years of experience in communications or a related field; Bachelors in communication, marketing, journalism, public relations, or English; an M.A. degree is a plus
