The project

The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping project. The ACLED team conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED material is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support the work of practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

The role

The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including supporting staff with any internal requests and mediation; drafting and implementing policies and procedures; overseeing a Talent Acquisition Officer; and providing any additional administration support.

Core Responsibilities:

• Execute human resources strategic and day-to-day plans, policies and procedures.
• Coordinate daily staff enquiries and provide internal conflict mediation.
• Manage HR platforms and support with daily administrative tasks.
• Supervise Talent Acquisition Officer.

Staff Support and Mediation:

• Coordinate staff enquiries and correspondence, including direct referrals (invoicing / access issues), verification and recommendation letters and any internal / external recruitment-related questions.
• Provide guidance and support for personnel conflict management where required, including conflict mediation, disciplinary procedures and manager guidance.
• Advise on resources, measures and initiatives to improve internal communications (especially in a digital office).
• Establish, communicate and oversee disciplinary policies and procedures.
• Provide internal conflict mediation;
• Any other tasks that fall within the remit of Human Resources as determined by the Head of Operations.

Policies and Procedures:

• Provide regular employment contracts updates (Job Description etc), with the support of Talent Acquisition Officer and Associate Officer.
• Implement annual fixed-time contracts renewal, with the support of Talent Acquisition Officer and Associate Officer.
• Assist with drafting and implementation of required HR policies, procedures and resources; clarify and communicate changes to policies to the staff members.
• Maintain, update, and socialize ACLED’s Handbook via Vensure and Deel.
• Manage the HR page on the internal portal, ensuring its accuracy and relevance.
• Oversee human resource documentation and record management, including advising on tools and systems required.
• Lead on the preparation of Weekly HR Report for the Senior Team.

Administration:

• Manage and support Talent Acquisition Officer in their day-to-day operations.
• Oversee HR Google Drive and BambooHR platform, coordinating access levels and restrictions, producing regular reports etc.
• Support all team members regarding any questions related to the HR platforms.
• Prepare and review contracts for external vendors (including service providers and individual contractors).
• Advising on a variety of privacy and safety concerns (socializing safety location guide with managers, creating systems for privacy procedures etc)
• Communicate and socialize any changes to the procedures, new policies, events, promos or agendas.
• Draft and submit bid analyses and procurement requests with the support of the Logistics Officer.
• Support grant requests with information on staff, policies, procedures

Required Skills/Education:

• Fluency in English (essential).
• A bachelor’s degree in human resources, social sciences, psychology, nonprofit management, international relations, or a related field (essential).
• 2-3 years of experience in a similar role (working in human resources, office administration or management, counseling or case work for a non-profit) - (essential).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (essential).
• Good judgment and extremely high attention to detail (essential).
• Ability to work remotely and meet deadlines with limited supervision (essential).
• Strong problem-solving skills (essential).
• Experience working in a fast-paced and multicultural office (preferred).
• SHRM or similar certification (preferred).
