Catalytic Capital Senior Associate [Remote]

Trimtab is an unapologetically impact-first fund of funds. We invest across asset classes and sectors in search of the highest risk-adjusted impact. Trimtab is currently being incubated by The ImPact and Blue Haven Initiative, sponsored by a coalition of family offices, and with design funding grant support from The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Trimtab believes that a vibrant ecosystem of impact-first financial innovation is critical to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Trimtab also believes that a robust catalytic capital marketplace – accessible to investors and entrepreneurs, alike – is essential to developing and sustaining that ecosystem. Correspondingly, Trimtab partners with philanthropists, mission-driven investors, and a collaborative impact finance community to:

1. Seed, scale, and sustain innovative fund managers tackling the world’s most urgent, neglected, and solvable challenges;
2. Mainstream catalytic investing through a transparent and action-oriented “learning laboratory” designed to define, demystify, and showcase best practices.

This position offers a rare opportunity to work on cutting-edge ideas at the center of the fast-growing impact finance sector, while honing and applying the highest standards of investment research and impact analysis. Your work will generate functional experience in deal structuring, fund management, and impact measurement & management.

You are a fit for the role if you are entrepreneurial, comfortable with ambiguity, and possess excellent interpersonal abilities complemented with strong skills of analysis, judgment, and effective communication to make things happen. You will be an active and enthusiastic partner in crafting the near-term strategic vision and execution of Trimtab and execute a range of operational and administrative tasks to keep us moving forward.

Role Details and Responsibilities

The Senior Associate will report directly to the Co-Founder and Principal of Trimtab, partner regularly with the Director of Special Initiatives at The ImPact and Senior Associate at Blue Haven Initiative, and collaborate closely with Trimtab’s key stakeholders (founding sponsors, anchor investors, Advisory Board).

As we are in the process of establishing what legal entity structure is most conducive to achieving our mission, this position will initially be structured as a consulting arrangement via contract with The ImPact, with the intention of transitioning to a salaried position at Trimtab upon formal launch.

This is a remote position, and we will consider candidates globally. However, we have a strong preference for candidates either based in the New York City area or willing to travel regularly to New York. We believe consistent in-person collaboration is important and will expect such collaboration at least monthly and ideally weekly.

Expected annual fee for these services is between $75,000-$130,000, commensurate with experience and location.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Associate’s responsibilities fall mainly within the following areas:

1. Supporting Trimtab’s pre-launch development, structuring, and partnership;
2. Supporting Trimtab’s investment activities by sourcing, vetting, structuring and executing impact-first investments aligned with the Fund’s priorities;
3. Supporting and improving internal operations and systems on an ongoing basis.

Specific responsibilities to include:

• Assisting with sourcing, vetting, due diligence, structuring, and execution of Fund investments
• Preparing investment memos and diligence reports for Investment Committee that are accurate, insightful, and compelling
• Performing ad hoc financial analyses including investment analysis, portfolio analytics, and scenario planning that are critical to decision-making
• Performing landscape analysis and market outreach on the current catalytic / impact-first marketplace, while developing and maintaining a wide network in the space
• Development of external marketing and storytelling materials to articulate the Fund’s strategy
• Building and managing internal databases and systems

Though the role requires a generalist approach, we seek to foster and empower team members to grow and build upon their expertise across impact themes.
