Our Digital Security Helpline is a globally distributed team that provides 24/7 incident response, digital security advice, and implementation support for civil society around the world. We offer real-time, direct technical assistance and advice to civil society groups & activists, media organizations, journalists & bloggers, and human rights defenders.

About this role
The Digital Security Helpline strives to support its beneficiaries by practicing a holistic security approach, integrating psychosocial, physical and digital security into traditional security management practices. The Holistic Security Coordinator supports this approach, handling help requests which may affect the spheres of psycho-social or physical security, to ensure Team Members’ capacity to perform their work with attention to their most fundamental well-being.

In order to strengthen the Helpline’s ability to make referrals to practitioners and organizations working in the field who would be best placed to provide support in specific contexts, the Holistic Security Coordinator creates processes, procedures and related documentation to build, maintain and strengthen relationships with key partners who provide psychosocial and physical security support to civil society. The Coordinator develops, coordinates and implements practices for the Helpline Team to enable all its members to perform their work in the most sustainable and healthy manner, also sharing knowledge and recommendations on how to deal with particularly distressing or upsetting occurrences.

This role works closely with Helpline Team Members, and reports through the Helpline’s Deputy Director.

What you will do
• Maximize impact of assistance and interventions requiring psycho-social and/or physical safety support
• Build and maintain relationships with holistic security practitioners, organizations, trainers to strengthen the ecosystem capacity
• Build and maintain beneficiary relationships and partnerships with at-risk communities and groups in need of holistic security support
• Facilitate referrals to and collaborate with other support organizations for the needs of civil society organizations, journalists, and at-risk users
• Coordinate procedural support to improve the holistic security ecosystem capacity, by engaging with relevant organizations, communities and networks; e.g. Level Up, CiviCERT, Holistic Security and OrgSec communities
• Support the development and improvement of documentation and other resources and communications in support of beneficiaries and intermediaries
• Serve as an escalation point for expertise within the Helpline Team and beyond
• Support strategic analysis and planning of efforts of the Helpline
• Develop, coordinate and implement practices to ensure the holistic sustainability of the Helpline Team’s work and its members’ well-being
• Contribute to the creation of resources, trainings, initiatives in collaboration with fellow practitioners and organizations across the holistic security field
• Assist in global implementation of the annual RightsCon summit series
• Perform other duties as assigned

Skills, education, and mindset you will bring
This role is suited to a practitioner with strong experience providing psychosocial and/or physical security support to civil society and media workers, human rights defenders, activists and individuals at risk. We’re looking for an individual who is excited by Access Now’s mission, strives to support at-risk communities with strengthening their psycho-social and physical safety knowledge and skills, and enjoys participating in collaborative efforts and nurturing trust relationships across our community of practice. Specific examples include:

• Experience in assessing psychosocial and/or physical security risks and communicating risk reduction strategies to audiences who may not be knowledgeable about these matters
• Understanding of the holistic security needs of at-risk users, such as civil society members, human rights defenders, media workers, discriminated demographics
• Competence in providing holistic security training designed to support at-risk individuals and communities, in-person and/or online
• Experience in conducting holistic security assessments for civil society organizations and/or at-risk individuals, delivering actionable remediation plans and support follow-up implementation
• Familiarity with the ecosystem of holistic security intermediaries, practitioners, trainers and other relevant partners operating in support of at-risk users affected by psycho-social and/or physical security threats
• Experience providing holistic security support for high-risk individuals, groups, or organizations
• Experience with coordinating collaborative efforts, also providing guidance and advice aimed at strengthening the capacity of fellow team members
• Competence or interest in the development of written resources and documentation
• Strong ability to plan, organize, and follow through with projects efficiently
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage priorities
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Willingness to travel on occasion
• Fluency in English - written and oral; fluency in other languages preferred
• Appropriate education and work preparation to demonstrate the capability to contribute meaningfully to the Access Now Digital Security Helpline and the beneficiaries we support

The Details

Location
This is a full-time position with openness to multiple locations around the world. Meetings with your direct manager will generally take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. UTC. The successful candidate must possess the right to work in the location in which they will be based. At this time most Access Now Team Members are working through hybrid office arrangements, combining remote at-home work with intermittent use of co-working spaces.

Remuneration

• €4,550 EUR gross monthly (Belgium)
• $3,750 USD gross monthly (Costa Rica)
• €5,270 EUR gross monthly (Germany)
• K250,000 KES gross monthly (Kenya)
• $5,900 SGD gross monthly (Singapore)
• $5,250 USD gross monthly (United States)
