The World Justice Project (WJP) is seeking to hire one Program Associate to support the development and execution of survey data collection and analysis, under a new, multiyear research project to measure the status of justice and the rule of law in the European Union (EU) at the regional level (NUTS1/NUTS2). This position will contribute to household survey data collection efforts for this research project, as well as data analysis and the production of reports reflecting the status of rule of law in the EU. This position will report to the Research Director for this project. This is a current vacancy, with an immediate start.

The position will be based in the WJP Washington, DC office. WJP maintains a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Staff are expected to be located within commuting distance of one of our established offices, and to work from the office at least three days per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support primary data collection and analysis processes for a household survey administered in the EU at the regional level, including drafting a Request for Proposals, coordinating with local polling partners, and ensuring data quality.
• Organize, design, plan and conduct data collection, evaluation, analysis, and dissemination.
• Prepare draft technical documents and analysis.
• Support the development or revision of statistical concepts and methodologies.
• Participate in staff recruitment and training, as necessary.
• Help manage administrative processes for the WJP team, including contract negotiations, payment processes, and day to day administration of consultant and vendor contracts.
• Support projects and activities that relate to data collection efforts, data presentation, data visualization, and report production.

Skills and Experience

• University degree in Political Science, Economics, Law, Public Policy, or related field (advanced degree preferred). Successful candidates will have completed coursework on EU topics.
• At least three years of professional experience collecting, analyzing, and communicating data.
• A strong academic track record and an enthusiastic interest in the rule of law.
• Experience conducting evidence-informed research.
• Superior research and analytical skills, knowledge of survey research methods, and ability to interpret and analyze data.
• Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills required, as well as experience with STATA, R, or another statistical analysis software.
• Experience working with quantitative survey data, including data cleaning, validation, analysis, and visualization.
• Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
• English fluency is required; proficiency in additional languages is preferred.
• Commitment to WJP's mission and principles.

Physical Requirements

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard, and is frequently required to be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee also may need to remain seated for long periods of time, have the ability to perform repetitive motions, grasp objects, including a writing instrument, stand, communicate verbally and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. The employee may be required to walk, push, or pull objects, bend, squat, reach, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for extensive reading and data analysis.

Working Conditions

The work conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. WJP staff work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent, and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels.
