Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. Delivered in nine Asian languages in addition to English, our journalism extends beyond radio to include web, video, mobile and e-books. RFA is currently seeking a dynamic and motivated professional skilled in the planning, preparation, and production of video projects to join its team and help it fulfill RFA’s mission by producing creative, polished, and engaging online multimedia content.

Responsibilities Include:

• Independently producing video projects and series pilots while setting a high standard for other producers and freelancers.
• Leading a team of producers to conceive and plan stand-alone videos and video series from story development, research, writing proposal, to production, and drawing upon strong creative skills to explore new trends and approaches to video storytelling.
• Working with the Director to identify topics that are newsworthy for digital programs and to supervise videographers to shoot footages during field coverage when required.
• Under the supervision of service Director, working closely with the Web Team and graphic designers to improve the overall presentation of the Mandarin website and digital programs.
• Creating an editorial calendar of video projects’ coverage, production dates, and publishing dates. Monitoring the attendance of the digital team members and ensuring work is completed on time and production deadlines are met.
• Working with editors and designers to plan and execute special report packages.
• Directing and mentoring junior producers. Providing constructive feedback on their script development and productions, and maintaining the quality of the video team.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 8 years of video production experience in journalism or related industries.
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
• Superb editorial and Mandarin writing skills.
• Able to generate story ideas that are both appealing to the audience and consistent with RFA’s mission.
• Comprehensive knowledge of China.
• Familiarity with the field of video journalism.
• Able to identify outstanding freelancers inside and outside of China to commission projects.
• Capable of managing a project independently with good communication skills.
• Very creative and passionate about enhancing and empowering RFA’s brand.
• Must have a portfolio of previous work.
• Must be a team player and possess strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite.
• Required language skills: Fluency in written and verbal Mandarin Chinese and proficiency in written and verbal English.
