The International Republican Institute’s Center for Global Impact is designed to help IRI learn, innovate, and lead in global democratic development programming. Comprised of experts specializing in a range of technical areas and program staff who oversee global and cross-cutting initiatives, the Center leads the Institute’s efforts to contribute to thought leadership; respond to emerging global challenges and trends; facilitate global initiatives; and serve as an incubator for new ideas and cutting-edge approaches.

The PO is responsible for designing and implementing a strategy for IRI's Generation Democracy program.? Launched in 2015, Generation Democracy is a global network of more than 300 youth across 78 countries. Through the network, young changemakers can share ideas and best practices, as well as access skills-building workshops, webinars and professional development opportunities to help advance positive change in their communities and countries. The PO will closely monitor and analyze trends in positive youth development (PYD); design programming to support young civic and political leaders; support and mentor Generation Democracy members; as well as identify program partners and maintain close relationships with them and with funders.

Position Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in political science, international relations or related field.
• Three to five years’ professional experience in democratic governance and politics, preferably working directly with political parties, civil society organizations/NGOs or legislative bodies, or equivalent combination.?
• Working knowledge of inclusion of marginalized populations, particularly youth, as cross-cutting issues for (DRG) programs.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English, with a preference for experience writing and reviewing grant proposals and reports.
• Demonstrated experience working with U.S. Government funded projects and familiarity with USG regulations and processes.?
• Demonstrated management experience of complex, global programs that require regular virtual communication and oversight, including?the accounting skills necessary to oversee a budget.?
• Ability to work under pressure and take initiative to develop creative solutions to complex problems in a short amount of time.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team to coordinate and lead the efforts of other professionals to effectively meet program goals.?

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

• Oversee the implementation of the Generation Democracy program and associated grant activities including facilitating virtual trainings and high-level in-person events; coordinating virtual working groups; and communicating with Network members across the world on daily basis.
• Monitor and create professional content for the Generation Democracy Twitter and Facebook accounts to highlight the work being done by young leaders in the Network.
• Analyze and help ensure interventions are sensitive to issues of inclusion of groups who are subject to different vulnerabilities, particularly youth populations and people with disabilities.
• Anticipate potential problems, trouble shoot and actively take part to lead the resolution of challenges with creative and immediate solutions.
• Maintain and demonstrates an understanding of funder and IRI policies and procedures related to grant compliance and oversight.
• Support efforts to ensure that grants are in compliance with grant agreements and completed on time.
• Monitor and ensure proper tracking of budget estimates and program expenditures to ensure that IRI projects remain within budget allocations.
• Oversee and participate in all monitoring and evaluation efforts for grants assigned, specifically participatory, youth-led methods.
• Contribute, review and edit semi-annual, final and other reports for funders.
• Contribute to the substantive design of new programs and to the development of new program activity ideas that are relevant to current and emerging trends related to positive youth development in the democracy, rights and governance (DRG) sector.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with relevant stakeholders in Washington, D.C. and abroad.
• Represent IRI at external events and coordinate efforts to feature Generation Democracy members at external events.
• Supervise program associate staff assigned to the portfolio, including leading the professional development and evaluation process for these staff.
• Foster and contribute to initiatives that build an equitable and inclusive workplace that embraces diverse identities, backgrounds and experiences
• Display cultural and gender sensitivity by engaging with colleagues and partners in a respectful, welcoming manner and demonstrate integrity by modeling IRI's values.
• Travel as needed for program oversight and implementation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Required

• Bachelors or better in Political Science or related field.

Experience

Required

• 3-5 years:
• Working knowledge of inclusion of marginalized populations, particularly youth, as cross-cutting issues for (DRG) programs.
