Ahmedabad international airport starts screening passengers for Zika virus

Ahmedabad, Sep 15 (Just Earth News): Ahmedabad's international airport authority started screening passengers for ZikaVirus following advisory from the Centre, according to media reports on Thursday.

 A doctor and an assistant from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) are screening of passengers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad from Wednesday.
 
However, the media quoted the airport authorities as saying that the screening is not compulsory for passengers and the medical team is on duty for 12 hours, mostly at night.
 
The mosquito-borne Zika virus is suspected of causing serious birth defects.
