Before India and Pakistani officials made any announcements, US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social page that the two neighbours agreed to a ‘full and immediate ceasefire’.
Trump said the two neighbours reached the agreement after a ‘long night of talks mediated by the United States’.
He wrote on Truth Social: “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed Trump’s comments and said the two neighbours have agreed to an immediate ceasefire.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also shared the development and wrote on X: “Over the past 48 hours, @VP Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik.”

Rubio further said: “I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.“
India and Pakistan have fought several wars since the two nations were formed in 1947.
The latest conflict escalated after Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked and killed 26 tourists, mostly non-Muslims, in Jammu and Kashmir's popular destination Pahalgam on April 22, an incident that drew worldwide condemnation.
The terrorists- belonging to The Resistance Front (TRF), which is an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)- asked the victims to chant Islamic verses (kalma) and made them pull down their pants to be sure of their their non-Muslim religious identities (read circumcision) before gunning them down before their families, including wives, children and daughters.
On May 7, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist camps at various locations inside Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), to avenge the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
It was the first major terror attack registered in the picturesque Union Territory since the Indian government scrapped Article 370 in 2019.
