Pakistani police have detained an Afghan journalist in Islamabad, raising concerns over the safety of exiled reporters and the risk of possible forced deportation, according to media reports.
The journalist has been identified as Ubaidullah Ahmadi.
Sources in Islamabad told Khaama Press that the freelance Afghan journalist was taken into custody by Pakistani police, though no official explanation has been provided so far.
The reason for Ahmadi’s detention remains unclear, and police have not issued any formal statement regarding the arrest.
The detention comes amid intensified house-to-house inspections in Islamabad by Pakistani authorities, aimed at identifying undocumented Afghan migrants for detention and deportation.
Rights groups and journalists’ organisations have repeatedly expressed concern that such crackdowns could place exiled Afghan journalists and activists at heightened risk.
