Pakistani religious cleric and lecturer Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza survived an attack by an unidentified assailant on Sunday, according to media reports.
The incident took place outside the Quran & Sunnat Research Academy, where Mirza regularly delivers lectures.
Attacker Killed in Retaliatory Fire
According to local police, the attacker arrived at the scene armed with a 9mm pistol, lay down on the ground, and opened fire.
Jhelum police spokesperson Kashif Kiani told Dawn News that security personnel and police returned fire, killing the assailant on the spot.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chaudhry Shafiq confirmed that Mirza remained safe and unharmed during the incident and later continued his lecture at the academy.
Security Personnel Injured
A member of the cleric’s security team was injured in the attack. The injured constable was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jhelum, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
Investigation Underway
Authorities said the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
The District Police Officer of Jhelum told Dawn News that an investigation is underway to identify the attacker and determine whether he had any accomplices or links to a broader network.

Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza is a well-known religious scholar and lecturer, widely followed on social media platforms.
His YouTube channel has over 3.1 million subscribers, where he shares lectures on religious topics.
Mirza has previously survived multiple attacks, including an incident earlier this year and an assassination attempt in March 2021.
