Speaking to reporters upon arrival in Islamabad, Ghalibaf said, as quoted by Tasnim, that despite Iran’s “good faith” in negotiations, it had been attacked twice within less than a year during ongoing talks. “We have goodwill, but we do not have trust in Americans,” he added.
Talks Scheduled Amid Ceasefire Between US and Iran
The meeting comes amid a two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, raising hopes for renewed diplomatic engagement.
Meanwhile, Islamabad has been placed on high alert ahead of the talks, with more than 10,000 security personnel deployed to ensure the safety of visiting delegations.
According to Dawn, the security plan is being overseen by the military and supported by paramilitary forces, including the Rangers, as well as Islamabad and Punjab police. Around 6,000 personnel from the capital police, 900 Frontier Constabulary personnel, and 3,000 from the Punjab Constabulary have been mobilized, alongside Rangers and Pakistan Army units.
