Kabul: The first female lieutenant general of Afghanistan died at a hospital in Kabul on Friday.

Suhaila Siddiq was 82 years old.

She was a well known surgeon and served in Daud Khan Military Hospital for 36 years.

Siddiq was born in 1938 in Kabul.

After starting her education in Kabul Medical University, she completed her medical studies in Moscow State University, according to local media reports.

Reports said Siddiq was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for the past six years.

The disease left her with a fragile memory.

"Siddiq served as the Minister of Public Health from December 2001 to 2004. Prior to that, she worked as a senior surgeon in the military hospital," Khaama Press reported.
