A fierce conflict broke out after the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas mounted a massive rocket attack on Israel early on Saturday and sent fighters across the border triggering what Israel called a full scale war. As rockets and missiles rained and gunbattles broke out between Palestinian fighters and Israeli security forces, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is "at war". At least 300 people have died and countless are wounded in Israel, as fighting raged. According to foreign media reports on Sunday morning, in Gaza, at least 232 Palestinians have died and more than 1,600 are wounded as Israel launched air strikes.
