• Establish systems to facilitate content retrieval for use in news production. Assisting producers and others with requests for media files for their project needs.
• Project manage changes to metadata and taxonomy, asset scope, workflow, system functionality, etc.
• Drive DAM metadata and taxonomy strategies and approach, with strong consideration to asset retrieval needs and alignment with RFA’s mission to provide timely and accurate news.
• Develop and oversee DAM workflows, to ensure the system meets the needs of a multimedia news organization, across the asset lifecycle (ingest to archive).
• Develop asset and metadata standards.
DAM & Metadata Governance
• Act as the primary participant, facilitator, and driver of cross-functional DAM and metadata governance council operations, to ensure continued agreement on the metadata schema, taxonomy, and controlled vocabularies, and the prioritization of workflow and system changes and improvements
• Ensure that DAM Specialists follow protocols while serving the needs of RFA language services.
• Develop and maintain DAM policy documentation and DAM governance documentation.
• Facilitate and track governance discussions and decisions.
Training, Change Management and Communication Strategy
• Oversee framework and execution of user training activities.
• Oversee data migration from past archival systems.
• Oversee the communication and socialization of DAM system capabilities, best practices and changes.
• Oversee DAM change control processes.
• Coach and mentor DAM Specialists in career development.
System Upgrades, Metadata Improvements, and Technical Maintenance
• Assist with vendor management.
• Coordinate and manage all planned enhancements, and work with user groups to establish priorities and commitment to planned changes.
• Keep informed of the latest changes to DAM system functionalities and roadmap, and plan for change in advance.
• Communicate requirement changes to implementation partners.
Desired Experience and Skills
• Higher Education Degree such as a Master of Library Science (MLIS), related degree or commensurate experience
• 5+ years of experience managing a large Digital Asset Management (DAM) or Media Asset Management (MAM) system, with strong technical understanding
• Firm knowledge of metadata and taxonomy application and best practices for system navigation and content search and retrieval
• Experience in a multimedia news environment is strongly preferred.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.
• Evidence of strong communication skills and ability to build good relationships with stakeholders, influencers and technical team members, especially in multicultural environments
• Strong time management and organizational skills, with the proven ability to prioritize a large volume of work effectively and efficiently with tight deadlines
• Strong project management and change management experience
• Must be knowledgeable on scaling DAM systems, workflow improvement and user adoption strategies
• Chinese and/or other RFA target language abilities and experience with multilingual cataloging are strongly preferred. Prior media production experience is a plus.
